Since 2002, I have worked as a helping professional. My work experiences led me through homeless shelters, substance abuse treatment centers, mentoring programs, and inpatient psychiatric hospitals. In these various settings, I realized how one-on-one therapeutic relationships have deep healing potential. Through these professional encounters and my own positive counseling experiences, I found my calling as a psychotherapist.
I graduated from Naropa University in May 2015 with an MA in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology. I chose this university due to the focus on Eastern Psychology, Buddhist, and Mindfulness Meditation and how we can incorporate these theories with Western Medicine. Upon graduation in the fall of 2015, I moved back to my home state of Idaho and opened my private practice.
In my practice, I use Transpersonal and Feminist Theory, Gestalt, and Mindfulness. Recently, I've been incorporating Brainspotting (phase 1 trained) and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). These frameworks are helpful to strengthen intuition, body awareness, and deepen one's insight of their emotions. My perspective views all aspects of human experience as real and valid. I emphasis the 'here and now' to develop understanding between one's internal and external world. This understanding illuminates our system of beliefs giving important information about how we move through the world. My belief is that overall mental health can be achieved once our mind, body, and spirit are in alignment.
My ethics, as a professional in the healing field, are shaped by examining, naming, and challenging systems of oppression. I am a white, cis gender woman who has privilege and biases that I continuously work to identify and transcend. I am committed to actively challenging my own (un)conscious belief systems through education, workshops, and contemplation. A portion of my profits go to various social justice organizations (e.g. ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Southern Poverty Law Center, and bail fund reliefs across the nation for those rallying for rights). All beings are welcome and honored in my practice. On a personal level, I spend my free time connecting with loved ones, playing with my cattle dogs, reading, hiking, exploring various mindfulness practices, watching comedies, and traveling.
